This is the first release on TERANGA BEAT, a compilation of music created by one Senegal's most important and highly respected artists IDRISSA DIOP, highlighting his recordings made from 1969 until 1976 which was the last made in Senegal before leaving to live in France. The liner notes include more information on 'IDY', his legendary band SAHEL and the music in Senegal. The record includes 12 track, 5 of them previously unreleased. SAHEL was the biggest band in Senegal for five years 1971-1976 and they released only one album. Chef d' Orchestre was the organ & guitar player CHEIKH TIDIANE TALL who worked a lot with IDY DIOP even after the SAHEL band. This was the band who changed the music in Senegal forever, the first to combine the SALSA sound with the traditional one of SABAR and to create the new fashion of MBALAX. We hope you will enjoy it .
