DESCRIPTION:
The extraordinary art of multi-talented artist Páll Guðmundsson from Húsafell :: Páll Guðmundsson was born in 1959 in Húsafell in the west of Iceland, where he still lives today as a sculptor and artist. He had studied at the University of Fine Arts in Cologne, Germany.

In this clip we were privileged to have Páll demonstrate his stone xylophones, "steinharpa" in Icelandic, which he produces from the local rock, as well as a tour of his paintings and other stone sculptures.

Each stone, despite its rough shape is a perfectly tuned "idiophone", a musical instrument which creates sounds purely through its own vibration, without the use of strings., Since the stones remain in pitch perfect condition Páll tells us that other musicians often have to retune their instruments to his xylophone when they play together.
