DESCRIPTION:
The World's Loudest Band Live at 12 Oakes, Grand Rapids, MI. New Years Eve 1994. Who says drugs are bad??
9-Volt Tongue was a hyper aggressive extremely loud and sometimes confrontational ambient rock and roll band from West Michigan formed in 1993 from the fallout of Grand Rapids' own seminal Punk/Hardcore juggernaut "The Wheelchair Motherfuckers" (M.F.'s for short) and Holland Michigan's punk rock powerhouse June Bug Spade (J.B.S. for short).
9-Volt Tongue went on to record and play continuously throughout Michigan during their tenure in the club and underground music scene despite having totaled the band van, having their practice space looted of over 6 grand in gear, and replacing their frontman (Fontaine) in 1997 with Herm Aphrodite, 9-Volt Tongue still managed to stay a busy and productive band. They recorded three demos, released a 45 with much college radio airplay (check those back issues of CMJ), and had recorded a second (still unreleased) 45 at White Room Studios in Detroit. Their second demo (released on cassette only) is called "It's Lonely at the Top", and was a big seller in West Michigan and in the other markets in which they played, selling out within a few months after pressing. They also recorded a CD (still unreleased) at the now defunct Tall Cotton Studios on music row in Nashville.

9-Volt Tongue had the pleasure of sharing the stage with numerous Indie notables from the 90s including: The Jesus Lizard, Unsane, Alice Donut, Buzzoven, Chokebore, D.R.I, Samiam, The Toadies, Cows, Mog Stunt Team 5, The Gore-Gore Girls, and nearly every band on AmRep, Touch & Go, and Alternative Tentacles that made it's way through Michigan between 1994 and 1998.
