DESCRIPTION

Commentary: This song, is based on a centuries old supplication, taught by Ali Ibn Abi Talib to Kumayl Ibn Ziyad Nakha'i, a confidant amongst the companions of Ali Ibn Abi Talib (Dua Kumail). This sublime Du'a was first heard from the beautiful, though anguished, voice of Ali. The song's lyrics come from the worshipper's point of view as he, in utter humility, entreats Allah, to deal with him not in accordance with what he deserves as a sinner, but in compatibility with Allah's own high attributes as Forgiver, Merciful and Cherisher of His bondman and lead him to the path of piety and righteousness.

The video was filmed in the fjords and quiet mountain plateaus of Geiranger, Norway which truly highlight its serene qualities.

LYRICS

I walk these steps not knowing where to go
I walk these steps not knowing where to turn
I walk these steps knowing you are the light
I walk these steps knowing you are the cure

Fe Ilayka Ya Rabbi Nasabtu Wajhi
(So, my Lord! I look earnestly towards Thee)
Wa Ilayka Ya Rabbi Maddatu Yaddi
(and towards Thee, my Lord! I have stretched forth my hands)
Fastajib Li Du'aee Wa Balighni Munay
(therefore, by Thy honour, respond to my supplication and let me attain my wishes)

I've wronged myself but I depend on you
I've oppressed myself but I rely on you
Ilaahi Wa Sayidi Thalamtu Nafsi
)O' lord and master, I have made my own soul to suffer)
Ilaahi Wa Rabbi Men Li Siwaak
(O' lord and master, who do I have but you?)

Fe Ilayka Ya Rabbi Nasabtu Wajhi
(So, my Lord! I look earnestly towards Thee)
Wa Ilayka Ya Rabbi Maddatu Yaddi
(and towards Thee, my Lord! I have stretched forth my hands)
Fastajib Li Du'aee Wa Balighni Munay
(therefore, by Thy honour, respond to my supplication and let me attain my wishes)

O' My lord I ask you by your mercy
O' My lord I ask you by your beauty
O' My lord I ask you by your majesty
O' My lord I ask you I beg you to forgive me

Fe Ilayka Ya Rabbi Nasabtu Wajhi
(So, my Lord! I look earnestly towards Thee)
Wa Ilayka Ya Rabbi Maddatu Yaddi
(and towards Thee, my Lord! I have stretched forth my hands)
Fastajib Li Du'aee Wa Balighni Munay
(therefore, by Thy honour, respond to my supplication and let me attain my wishes)
