A Ritual Spirit - "Visceral Decay" Disposable Noise Records - A BlankTV Feature!

Artist city, country: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

Artist Biography: As 2009 was heading to a close, Oli, Steve and Iain had left Serpico, the band that brought them together, and turned their thoughts to a handful of riffs and ideas that they had been working on.

By the spring of 2010, after several attempts at finding the right drummer, Dave was asked to "help out" on drums for the band's first demo (Steve and Dave had been in a band together a few years previously called Read It and Weep). The resulting self recorded 4 song demo was released, and by the time the first gig came in January 2011, the demo had been ordered from all corners of the UK and even abroad.

2011 saw the band gig consistently throughout, and as ideas kept coming another 3 tracks were recorded, this time at Chamber Studio in Edinburgh; songs from this session received radio play and inclusion on several compilation C.D.s, as well as being snapped up by people keen to hear new music from the band. More gigs followed and saw the first steps into England for a few shows, continuing into 2012 with a January gig at Edinburgh's legendary Studio 24. The band's attention then turned to writing again...

"Why don't we just do an album?!" may have been the most optimistic, crazy phrase that was uttered in 2012, but it happened, and writing took over. Recording started in May at Howden Sound Studios just outside Edinburgh and the 12 new tracks were mixed back at Chamber Studio in January 2013. The band played a handful of gigs in between to break up the writing and studio time and began playing several of the new tracks live. Unfortunately 2012 also saw Iain leave the band; a long time comrade who wouldn't be easy to replace, but by December Craig had walked unassumingly into the band's rehearsal room and immediately fitted in. He joined the band and was thrown straight into a gig, surviving to tell the tale; he also managed to play on one of the album tracks.

The first full length A Ritual Spirit L.P. is here, 'Carnival Carnivorous' is out via Oli and Steve's label Disposable Noise. These are the songs the band wanted to write, they followed no mould or trend and emerged with an album they are proud of. Ask any of them what it sounds like, and they will say it sounds like A RITUAL SPIRIT.
