Maltine Records is a netlabel that discovered and promoted countless artists who are now fixtures in the Japanese club scene, including tofubeats, okadada, Onomatope Daijin, and banvox.
At the time of the label’s founding, older generations were shocked by the idea of distributing music online for free, but it was the most natural thing to do for tomad, the label’s founder, who was 15 years old at the time.
This represents the true meaning of “free” in the Internet age, something still difficult for Japan to understand ten years later."
