Songwriting, Hilary says, is "the absolutely coolest job in the world!" She adds."I try to write music that just inexplicably drives your spirit to a better consciousness."
A native of South Florida, who went on to study songwriting on scholarship at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music, Hilary McRae launched onto the national music scene in 2008 at the age of 21 with the release of her debut album "Through These Walls" on the Starbucks' Hear Music record label, whose exclusive roster of talent contained Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor.
As the first "developing artist" signed to the Hear Music label, Hilary delivered an album of 12 original songs which would go on to attain Billboard's top "Heatseeker" status for 4 consecutive weeks (peaking at #17). The infectious single from the album, "Every Day (When Will You Be Mine), would go on to chart on Billboard for 11 consecutive weeks (peaking at #22). Subsequent national tours included Hilary opening for Fergie, Natasha Bedingield, Teddy Geiger, Huey Lewis, Leon Russell, and Todd Rundgren. She made her national television debut on the CBS Early Show, where she performed several songs from "Through These Walls".
Fast forward 3 years later, following Starbucks' decision to shut down its Hear Music label amidst a global recession and enormous changes in the music industry, Hilary strides confidently into the future poised to release her 2nd full-length studio album "The Other Side" in the Spring, 2012.
Taking a new direction on "The Other Side", Hilary is proud to introduce a new set of creative collaborators, including the supremely accomplished producer and guitarist Adriel Garcia of Atlanta-based City Sleeps, among others.
As with "Through These Walls", Hilary has written all 13 songs on "The Other Side", though Garcia's songwriting collaboration on the title track and several others is evident. She has also put together an extraordinarily talented new group of young musicians to back her on stage, guys she endearingly calls "some of the grooviest, funkiest, baddest bunch of cats I've ever played with!"
