Divine Connection (aka DC) was started by Henry Johnson on January 20, 2006 at the Austin town hall Cultural Center. Henry Being a Church boy all his life knew for as long as he could remember he was to be a choir director. Starting off directing in the mirror, on the items made into a pretend choir on his dresser, to playing church with his sisters, friends, and family. Henry along with his family and anyone that would sit and talk with him long enough would know he was a choir director and church boy at heart. Henry received his first assignment into his destiny as direct of the angelic choir at his church at about 10 years old. From that point on it was no stopping him. He later went on to the young adult choir at his church. At the age of 13 Mark Caston of the Just for Christ Chorale, of the Westside of Chicago saw something in him that others looked over. So he decided to allow Henry to become his first director of his community choir (formerly Douglas Park CCC Gospel Choir). It was in this choir where Henry learned the fundamental of a great choir director. With some of his biggest influences as director from some of Chicago greats such as Harrison Spates, Kenny Lewis, Michael Graham, Ricky Dillard, Malcolm Williams,Vashawn Mitchell and of course the great Tyrone Block of the Tommies. After years of directing for different churches, community choirs, and school choirs praying, crying and seeking of the Lord. The Lord saw fit to make what once was a dream and turn it into reality.
Understanding that the only think that was holding Henry back from his destiny was himself. So at the end of 2004 Henry decided to sell out for the Master. After almost a year of his re-creation, praying, crying, sacrificing, humbling, and suffering for Christ name sake. Henry, knowing he would never be fully ready for the assignment of the Master Henry decided to step out on faith and trust the LORD. In December of 2005 Henry informed his president Mark Caston, family and close friends that the time has now come for me to step out and let God really do what he wants with me. This was the beginning for Divine Connection.
After the first rehearsal with just 3 people to show up Henry new that he still had to press on toward the mark of the prize of the High Calling of Jesus Christ. The first eight months things were not looking to good for the group. There were only about 7 members, really no where to rehearse, no musicians, BUT a whole lot of trust and Faith in GOD. After Henry began questioning his own faith, Henry remembered these words “the race is not giving to the swift nor to the strong but to the one that can endure” God began to do what he does best, makes ways out of no way. With in 1 month DC’s membership grew from 7 members to 19 members, no musicians to a full band, no where to have rehearsal to a steady and always available place to rehearse. This was Henrys assurance that God was, can and will do just what he said he would.
Since then the choir has been on a steady shot up. They have been favored with MO’s (ministry opportunity) with lots of the local churches in the chicago land area. They have shared the plat form with some of gospels greats such as Harrison Spates & the Souls of Salvation, Mark Caston & the Just for Christ Chorale, Angela Spivey & the Voices of Vctory, David Haynes & praise Unlimited, Kenny Lewis & One Voice, One For Christ, Macolom Williams & Great Faith, Adrain B. King and many more. They have also had the chance to minister in St. Louis, Mo where they are chosen to sing at a health awareness fair with Dr. Bobby Jones. As this music ministry known as Divine Connection have led many congregations into Praise and Worship, into the presence of the most high and allowed God to use them to Shift an entire program. They have also been to places such as St. Louis, MO,Orlando, FL, Detroit, MI and many Chicago surrounding surburbs.
With two stand room only concerts and other great apparences Dc has become one of Chicago most upcoming new favorites. With Gods speed, presence, power and anointing we are sure you will be hearing a lot to come from the music ministry Called Henry Johnson & Divine Connection.
