MC Positive Bastard - El Soor (Hector Osbert's Great Fall Of Cairo remix) - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 12, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Made in Cairo, Egypt in the space of one day with Hector Osbert, in his flat. I met him during my travels in the country. Inspired by the original song by Youssra El Hawary, which is a subtle attack at post-revolutionary Egypt. 'El Soor' means the wall, and there are many photos which show the walls the army were building to keep out the protestors from the government buildings. My favorite photo is the one of the burnt out building, which was the headquarters of Mubarak's political wing, a sight more beautiful than the pyramids.

The lyrics to the song have been inspired by all the protestors that took part in the revolution, and in particular those who lost their lives in the hope for something better. Unfortunately Egypt seems to be heading into a New Dark Ages with the election of a religious political party, and the dark undertone to the lyrics, music, and photos, highlight the fact that nothing much has changed. Yet the subtle melodies highlight the fact that hope remains for something more revolutionary. The faces may be different, yet the rhetoric is the same. One day though...we're going to burn it all to the ground and start something better.
