HARRY PAYUTA - ZACATECOLUC

''RockTimes'' Dez. 2010:

This is the 9th album by the german musician Harry Payuta. The for the moment living in El Salvador "Strings-Magician" has succeeded in an impressive way to let rule the Sitar sounds more western and relaxed Rock. This unusual coalition brings considerable listening pleasure.
"Zacatecoluca" is brilliantly staged music and offers a real alternative to conventional, everyday sounds. This album is something special. Payuta not only plays the Sitar, but also bass, and in many phases it sounds like a Chapman Stick. It's the groove. Oh man, it's amazing how many varieties Payuta has come up. All songs were written by him and most of the compositions are instrumental numbers.
The exception proves the rule. Melvin Hernandez sings in "Agua Del Mar". The fact that this track should be, according to a booklet tribute to Carlos Santana, also discloses itself in the shimmering percussion work of the native russian Konstantin Danilova, who with his many hand drums holds a crucial role. In addition Payuta plays guitar on "Great To Be Anywhere", a homage to Keith Richards and it has some tasty guitar licks.
Oh Lord, this bass in the driving then flying "Carrera" is to die for. From the recordings to the final mastering everything was in Payutas hands and the man has done a great job. Such a transparent sound is exactly the right sound-made suit for "Zacatecoluca. One can easily follow the beautifully melodic bass tones, although the Sitar dominated.
It is almost unbelievable, what facets the songs are equipped with. Sitar and funky bass fit into the bargain together yet ("Pacific Blue"). In addition, the CD contains many dreamy passages and the more you hear it, the more the enthusiasm is growing for such sound paintings.
Respect! Harry Payuta succeeded with "Zacatecoluca" a remarkably balanced and with many refinements featured album. The Indian instrument in the foreground and the beautiful musical environment, the well forty-nine minutes have been well designed. Who is looking for something unique, will come to this Payuta plate from over.
