HAMSTER THEATRE; Penny Lane's 20th Anniversary special. - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 29, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Penny Lane was a wonderful coffee shop that Boulder had. Sure, Boulder and other college towns have plenty of coffee shops but since this is in Boulder it is weird. You Coloradoans probably have seen the bumper stickers on cars saying, 'Keep Boulder Weird.' Well Penny Lane had plenty of that when it came to the live shows that were played here.
One time there was a band playing. It was mainly comprised of men but there was a girl there too. The men were in very low grade drag and tiaras. While people on the coasts may think that this isn't unique at all it certainly is for the Colorado tri-state area. I live in Fort Collins, another college town and they simply don't do that here. All I hear is rap and exorbitant amounts of Reggae music here.
Despite the cool and unusual bands that they got here the coffee and pastries were awesome! Definitely one of my favorite of Boulder coffee shops. Add a great atmosphere and it made the experience all the more enjoyable.
With Penny Lane's demise(for reasons I don't know... but if anyone does know, please let me know) I am sure there are other coffee shops in Boulder that do the same thing that Penny Lane did with bringing in the live music but currently I am unaware of such a place.
