After the release of his 12th studio album, Margaret's Children in 2011, Manning decided to take a break from writing and recording a new studio album every year. In 2012 he released a semi-acoustic live album and in 2013 he was refreshed and started working on a new studio album, his 13th in 14 years. The break did him a lot of good, as The Root, The Leaf & The Bone sounds fresh, inspired and fantastic. Less folk influences and more (70s) prog rock.
