DESCRIPTION:
Soviet concentration camps (Steplag, and forced labour in the USSR. From 8:41 min - march of the Kengir camp rebels (Ukrainian song). In total, more than 18 million people were sent to the Gulag from 1929 to 1953. Red terror and Stalinist persecution. The largest Soviet concentration camps consisted of more than 25,000 prisoners each, medium size camps held from 5,000 to 25,000 inmates, and the smallest, but most numerous labor camps operated with less than 5,000 people each.

Among the tortures applied by the Svirlag camp administration was leaving bound inmates in cellar with hungry rats that were accustomed to human meat, inmates had been eaten alive by rats. Many never returned alive.
