Grind Inc. - Hole in the Ground - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Grind Inc. from Germany has been going about the job of making brutal death metal for a while now. The band formed in 2000 and since then has released 3 full length albums with Sudden State of Hate being the latest.

Now, I have to say that usually generic brutal death metal bores the pants off me. It's simply a case of re-visiting ideas and re-using them again and again. Still, every once in a while an unapologetic death metal album comes along that simply does the basics so well that I have no choice but to sing its praises. Grind Inc. is one those bands.

Sudden State of Hate is an exercise in pummeling death metal. There isn't anything new on this album and every idea has been done before but the band manages to imbibe a terrific sense of energy into these twelve songs. Grind Inc. plays a brand of death metal made popular by stalwarts Suffocation with bits of Morbid Angel and the Stockholm death metal sound.

Stand out tracks include Certifiably Insane, Hole in the Ground, Lack of Credibility and the awesome title track. The band also uses a two vocalist approach to up the brutality stake of these songs. While both Christoph Mieves and Tom Strater sound a bit alike the songs still work and the dual vocals make for one aggressive ride. At the same time there's very little variation on offer. Its death metal played at warp speed right through the album. It's only on Collateral Body Count that the band change the tempo a bit with a mid paced chugging riff and the song does a good job of adding something new to this recording.

Now, Sudden State of Hate is not going to win the originality sweepstakes like I've already mentioned and the constant pummeling may not be for everyone. At the same time this is ripping death metal of high quality. At the end of the day Grind Inc. do for Suffocation and the NY death metal scene what Blood Red Throne have been doing for the Floridan death metal scene. A pretty kickass update.
