THE GREY EAGLES
Old friends who make some great old-time music, the Grey Eagles are three of the best-known players on the traditional music scene - Rafe Stefanini, Jim Collier, and Joe Newberry. When they get together they play wicked tunes, plus songs of Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Rafe Stefanini was born in Italy, and has lived in the U.S. since 1983. His love for music brought him here first as a visitor in the late 70s, then as a permanent resident. Since then he has established himself as one of the foremost interpreters of fiddle music from the South. Rafe's dynamic and elegant fiddle and banjo playing has been featured in bands including the Wildcats, Big Hoedown, and the Rockinghams.

Jim Collier has been playing old-time and bluegrass music since high school days in Raleigh, N.C. Influenced early on by time spent with Appalachian masters such as Roscoe Holcomb, Arnold Watson, and Gaither Carlton, he carries a rich tradition of tunes and songs, ranging from hard driving to sensitive and mournful. Jim is a superb singer, fiddler, banjo player, guitarist, and mandolin player.

Joe Newberry is a Missouri native and North Carolina transplant who has played music most of his life. His powerful and innovative banjo playing has won contests around the country, including first-place at the Appalachian String Band Music Festival. Also well known as a guitarist, fiddler, and singer, Joe does solo and studio work, and teaches and performs at festivals at home and abroad. Along with Jim, he is also a member of the renowned band Big Medicine.

Recorded on April 17, 2010 using a Flip Video camcorder.
