I made this arrangement up decades ago, and recorded it last night (when half spent) on a typical 2016 day when the news was full of just as much craziness as each day before. The very ideas of peace and compassion can seem to be moving out of reach, replaced as usual by the easier-to-achieve goals of strength and power. We must call them forth in our own hearts, to bloom like a rose in the dead of winter. This is my holiday offering for all of us, and the lives that should have mattered. Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming is a Christmas Carol from Germany, where it is known as Es ist ein Ros entsprungen. The music and words originate in the very late 1500s and early 1600s.

This is my own arrangement for guitar tuned to DADGAD. I've been playing this arrangement since the 1990s.
