Greg Fishman shares new system for creating diminished scales over V7b9 chords - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 14, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
D’Addario Woodwinds artist Greg Fishman shares his new system for creating diminished scales over V7b9 chords. The system is not based on the more common half-step-whole-step approach.

Instead, the system builds the scale with chord tones, starting with the primary notes of the dominant chord (1-3-5-7), and then adding the upper extensions (b9-#9-#11-13), one note at a time. The key to the system is to experience the unique harmonic flavor of each additional note as they relate to the lower notes of the chord.

A great companion book and CD set for working with this system is "Hip Licks for Saxophone," working with CD tracks 19 and 20, you can practice the scale in all keys, and also play twelve hip licks based on the scale. The book is available at greg fishman jazz studios dot com. (no spaces).
