Samick Greg Bennett Lasalle JZ-4 Hollowbody Demo - Matt Stottmann - Jazz Guitar - Video

DESCRIPTION:
I recently acquired a Samick Greg Bennett Lasalle JZ-4 hollowbody jazz box guitar, and it is truly a blast to play. Samick may not be the most well-known guitar manufacturer, but they certainly make some quality instruments. I also noticed a dearth of quality demos of this guitar, so I thought I'd toss one up on Youtube for the benefit of any jazz box shoppers.

It has a laminated spruce top and quilted maple laminate sides and back. Maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, and a Duncan Designed floating pickup helps amplify the guitar's big sound.

I recorded the demo with the same strings the guitar comes shipped with -- a .13 gauge set of nickel roundwounds. I plan on putting flats on it soon for a more authentic jazz tone and feel. The backing loop was recorded with a Boss RC-3 and the JZ-4.

The guitar sells online for $900 new. Here's the thing -- would I pay $900 for this guitar? Probably not. There are just too many other more versatile choices out there for that price. That being said, it is probably the highest quality Korean-made guitar I've ever played. You can tell that time and effort went into the creation of this guitar, but there are a few corners that were obviously cut in order to keep the price down, i.e. scarf joint, four-piece maple neck and very roughly finished on the inside.
