Ginny Arnell - Dumb Head - 1963 - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Dumb Head is the song that introduced me to the wonderful sound of Ginny Arnell, not in its own time of 1963 mind you, but rather in 2001. I was visiting Chicago on business and the song came on while in the shower and I was entranced by its infectuous and danceable beat, but more so by the voice of the singer. It's no coincidence that the song was being played on Chicago's Oldies radio station, since Dumb Head had been a huge hit in the Chicago area in 1963-1964. It actually peaked the first week of January of 1964 at #3. The song was also a hit nationally peaking at #50 on the Hot 100 Billboard Chart. It probably would have done even better had it not been for the somber mood of nation then, you see, the song was released at around the time of President Kennedy's assassination.

I then began researching all I could about Ginny, and found and bought the Marginal CD compilation, and now more recently, the even better compilation released by Poker. I am glad that new people are discovering Ginny like I did, and here is her biggest hit for all to enjoy.

A little background about the video, the song is about a self deprecating 60's teenager, so I tried choosing retro images and borrowed most of them from the great contemporary pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. His images are inspired by comic book type illustrations with over-the-top drama captions that I thought fittingly captured the mood and feel of this single. Of course, in this case, I changed the captions to fit the song.
