Desafinado (Off-key)
Composed by: Newton Mendonça / Tom Jobim
Performed by: João Gilberto & Stan Getz
Album: "Getz/GIlberto" from 1964

- There are at least two english versions of "Desafinado" lyrics, which were recorded by Frank Sinatra, George Michael, Ella Fitzgerald, etc... These versions tell pretty much the same story: an off-key guy who loves a music snob.

- Some say "Desafinado" is also a message to the critics that stated bossa nova was music for off-key singers (yes, there's always someone to criticize). Singers with strong voices were the current fashion at the time bossa nova was born in Brazil, and artists with low and soft voices like Gilberto didn't sound too good to conservative listeners.

- Rolleiflex is the name of a portable camera which was very trendy at the time. Although it may seem trivial nowadays, the simple mention of a brand in the song shows how bossa nova was a breakthrough to brazilian pop culture at the time.
