1944 Nickel - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 17, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Ok, so this is what happens when I get stumped. I apologize to any coin collectors who might happen upon this song if I got something wrong in the history. Also, since this one has rather more complicated words which I kept screwing up because I just wrote this thing (thank goodness I didn't put in more complex chords), I'll put the lyrics below.

LYRICS:
Oh 1944 steel core chromium and nickel plated nickel
Where have you been?
Out of nowhere, tossed into a hat, yeah life is fickle
So what have you seen?

Your story starts with tombac
88 percent copper and 12 percent zinc
With nickel running short in 42
they would have used that stuff for making you

But the old design with the beaver on the back
Looked a lot like a penny, so they had to think
Made a twelve sided coin, round just wouldn't do
But it wasn't enough, we were still confused

Oh 1944 steel core chromium and nickel plated nickel
Where have you been?
Out of nowhere, tossed into a hat, yeah life is fickle
So what have you seen?

A genius fix was soon devised
Put in a V for victory instead of a five
Get rid of the beaver and put in a flame
Yeah that's the way to win this game

It worked well enough but it just wasn't right
The colour still clashed, the tombac wouldn't jive
So make blanks out of steel and it's almost the same
Plate with nickel chromium and what's in a name?

Oh 1944 steel core chromium and nickel plated nickel
Where have you been?
Out of nowhere, tossed into a hat, yeah life is fickle
So what have you seen?

You're a little funny lookin
Think of how long this was cooking
Two years close to the end of the war
Made a little detail that outlasted them all

67 years later on
Dropped into a hat as pay for a song
I think that you've come awful far
And I like you just the way you are

Oh 1944 steel core chromium and nickel plated nickel
Where have you been?
Out of nowhere, tossed into a hat, yeah life is fickle
So what have you seen?
