PUBLISHED:  Apr 24, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Nikos Kypourgos talks to George – Emmanuel Lazaridis… An interview on the secrets of music interpretation! What is the relationship between a performer and a musical piece? What is the definition of culture? What is the role of silence in performance? What is the connection between social behavioral codes and the codes of practice an artist should pursue? What makes great art? Do musicians perform primarily for themselves, or for others?

These are some of the issues being addressed in this stimulating discussion, accompanied by small musical excerpts of Cesar Franck’s “Symphonic Variations” performed by G.E. Lazaridis. All parts have been filmed during G.E.L. rehearsals with the Athens State Orchestra. This interview ends with a short excerpt from G.E.Lazaridis’ live performance of Franck’s masterpiece at the Athens Megaron, under the direction of Nikos Tsouchlos.

This short video constitutes part of a long documentary series by Nikos Kypourgos, entitled “The Secrets of Music”. The series was produced by “Ekso Productions” for the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation “ERT”.
