"The Halloween Hang with Gary Lucas" returns to the Palace with the world premiere of his new solo guitar score for the original "Frankenstein."

Last year Gary wowed the Palace audience with his score for Spanish "Dracula." During the audience Q&A that followed a guest asked if he would consider creating a musical soundtrack for the 1931 "Frankenstein" starring Boris Karloff and directed by James Whale. Gary spent the last year perfecting his new vision and will debut it live at the Palace.

"It was inspired by my abiding love of early horror films, and is very much in the tradition of my Spanish "Dracula," said Gary Lucas, who has performed around the world both as a solo artist and with Captain Beefheart. "Frankenstein" is a film classic that oddly enough contains no music on the soundtrack except for the opening titles (or, not so odd, it being the Depression, and studio folks hedging their investment by skimping on hiring a composer). And thus "Frankenstein" being virtually music -free, I was provided a wonderful canvas to work my sonic magic on. It's a bit like scoring a silent film, but one needs to be cognizant of the rhythms of the dialogue throughout, not just the action, and strive not be "louder than the film."

Before the movie there will be a parade of costumes and other Halloween shenanigans.
"Frankenstein" is 70 minutes and will be shown as a digital file in English with Spanish subtitles.
