DESCRIPTION:
This must the the third time we've had the pleasure of seeing this innovative cross-cultural gamelan (Javanese/Balinese hammer orchestra) play Kresge Auditorium. Wonderful! And we got to see more of Shoko Yamamuro's striking "warrior dance" (if looks could kill!). Once again, the audience was invited to explore the multitude of percussive instruments and chat with the artists. I learned from them on our previous visit that practicing the gamelan solo is rather difficult, as each performer is often playing every other note!
