Funkabit is the stage name for DJ and producer Simone Coccato (born May 20, 1986).
Born and raised in the North East of Italy, he approaches the magic world of Music already as a child thanks to his older sister, flutist, who involves him during her concerts and teaches him the basic rules of music. She also gets him closer to various and different kinds of music of the early 90s.
In the early years of the New Millennium Funkabit develops a passion for club music, discovering and beginning to listen with great interest to some newly-born bands such as Daft Punk, Cassius and artists like Armand Van Helden and Alan Braxe.
He was so attracted from this kind of music, that in 2006 he started his own musical career by founding, at the very beginning, a duo, and using for the first time his stage name, Funkabit.
After this collaboration, it was in the year 2007 that he signed the contract that still ties him to the label Mozzarella Recordings owned by Francesco Brini (Bologna), well know on stage as Frank Agrario, drummer of the English band Swayzak and member of the brilliant duo Pinktronix.
Immediately, it has been easy to notice that Funkabit's production was influenced by the French house music from the 90s, by the funk of the endless '70s and by the contemporary dance music. In his production you can find voices, sounds and percussions of the recent past, thanks to the use of samples and of fitting them properly.
The debut single as a solo artist was "Cardigan" (published in October 2008). The single immediately had a great impact on the critical reviews, also thanks to the attractive remix of the already well-known band Amari.
Thanks to this, in December of that same year, he was commissioned the remix of the single "Carenza di Basso" by the Useless Wooden Toys, symbol band of the label from Milan" La Valigetta ".
Next production is from March 2009: the single "Lords of Coney Island", a piece of house music realized with the collaboration with the brand "Settimo Cielo" from Treviso.
The release of the single Mininova goes back to November 2009: a collaboration with Frank Agrario along with the great voice of the promising singer Michelina Needs.
After Mininova, it's time for the single "Stayin 'Alive" (4/23/2010), an ode to disco music and to the insistent groove of house French music; this single is getting great reviews from both Italian and International blogs and music magazines.
In addition, it has the honor of several remixes of important producers such as Munk (Gomma Records), Scanty Sandwich (Southern Fried), Spiller (Nano Records), Useless Wooden Toys (La Valigetta), Scuola Furano (Mantra / The Case / Riotmaker ) Fare Soldi (Riotmaker) and many more.
Funkabit was also present at the most important festivals and events, he toured the cities from the North to the South of Italy, he played in the most important and famous clubs (" Goa "from Rome," Mafia "from Reggio Emilia, "Yellow Submarine" from Milan, etc.)
Now in studio producing the new 4 singles coming on december.
