"Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" off of Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album which was released in 1973. According to the legend, the lyrics for this double album were written in two and half weeks, the music in three days and the album recorded over a two week period with Dee Murray assaulting the bass.

I've been wanting to learn this song for quite a while but have been putting it off because iTunes wouldn't let me purchase it as a single. In order to get this song I had to purchase the whole album, which I finally broke down and did. I'll have to mine the rest of the tracks to see if there are some other cool bass songs on it. I'm sure there are.

I started working on it in earnest last weekend and even made a point to practice it a bit each evening after work, which I don't often get to do. While I normally like to work on 4 or 5 new songs at a time, I found it to be a pretty challenging piece which demanded my undivided attention. I wanted to get it off my plate so I recorded it this morning. With a little more time, some of the rough spots would have been smoothed over a bit, but, all in all, I don't think it came out too awful-bad.

It's a long piece, clocking it at over 9 minutes so I'm sure most folks won't watch it in its entirety.

Also, check out my new, black Zero-Mod Thumb-rest. I was quite happy with the clear model but this just about completely disappears on the bass.
