Forthrite - "A Reason To Gasp"
Tonight I've run through these old streets for hours,
and these lungs feel like they could collapse any second now,
but maybe that wouldn't be so bad.
I would black out gasping for air,
with arms stretched out to no one.
And maybe my brain would lose oxygen long enough
To impair my ability to think so that I would no longer
have to wander through the labyrinths that are my thoughts,
or at least long enough to erase all the memories
that contain any traces of how I let you make a fool of me.
Then I'd be revived and see the world again with new eyes,
eyes that see things as they are and not for what they could be.
I could watch the crowds of people that pass me by,
and see them all as dead leaves blown across an autumn sky.
But then how long would it be before the cycle repeats
and I become corrupted once more with that which makes us human,
as I'd feel desire again for the first time.
Would I then make my lungs collapse again to forget another you?
With that in my mind, I think I'll take this transient fate, and catch my breath
'cause anything is better than repeating this mistake.
