Nella Martinetti died on Friday August 29th 2011 after being hospitalised with pancreatic cancer. She was 65.

We will miss you so much Nella, and say thank you for all you have done, we dedicate your own songs to you. Mea Culpa, Amore Mio and Oh my God give me peace and remember the wonderful time we had together, thank you for your smile, kindness and love throughout the last years, especially your confidence, giving this 3 wonderful Songs to Alessandro. The Ticinese musician achieved national fame in 1986 when she won the Grand Prix of Popular Music with her song, "Bella Muscia".

She also penned "Ne partez pas sans moi" (Don't leave without me), the song with which Canadian singer Celine Dion won the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Switzerland. It was the last time Switzerland won the contest.

Born in Brissago in 1946, Martinetti first trained as a school teacher before embarking on a career as a television presenter.
