Metropolis Comics, in the heart of Thessaloniki, is the only comics store in the city. Not that there were many to begin with, when it first opened twenty years ago. A huge collection of current and older comics, rare editions and collectors' items, carton boxes and stacks of orders for the now few but devoted customers cover the entire space, walls and floor. The narrow corridors left guide the customer through an exciting world of speech bubbles and illustrations, superheroes and adventures. The Greeks specialise in comedy, the Americans in cosmic space stories, the Japanese in sentiment. The boys buy adventure, the girls manga. Yiannis, the owner, would like to be able to fly, given the chance to choose one superpower. I guess that would bring him closer to his favourite superhero, Captain Marvel, however, I doubt that it would make him much wiser on the topic of comics, since he is already a walking, talking encyclopaedia - ok, a flying encyclopaedia then...
Foivos Delivorias on the other hand would like to be invisible. I guess this is in his nature as an artist - to observe the world around him unnoticed. Just as superheroes, Foivos might seem calm and composed, however he is always ready to take on his next great adventure. His live performances are imaginative, versatile and playful, built on different themes. Most of his songs are autobiographical, written without pauses and mostly without refrains. Precise, as they are fragmented, they capture scenes from his life's movie, jumping rather associatively from one still to another. He keeps his songs -and memories- alive, playing around with them in every performance. Stin Kallithea (In Kallithea - the Athens neighborhood where Foivos grew up and still goes back to, to write in his parents' home) is a new song that bandrop is honoured to present for the first time. It is about growing up and letting things go, about how time compresses and transforms our memories and interpretations of the past... (L.C.)
