DESCRIPTION:
Cobla for Combo Gili, played at the Salle Polyvalente à Ille sur Tet, Michel Prezman conducting his own composition, Mounting Flame, reflecting the annual ascent of the Canigou mountain (6000 ft+), in the Pyrénées Orientales, France, with a flambeau to light the flame of Saint John. After this, the climbers return with the flame to the waiting runners below, who carry it to their villages for the big feast in honor of the patron saint of the Catalan people. The cobla is a traditional type of music in the region, and is played by a cobla orchestra formed of ancient and recent instruments, which gives it its distinctive sound.
