DESCRIPTION:
Poppie's Fish & Chips is an authentic and much-loved chippy from the East End. Find out more about founder and owner Pat 'Pop' Newland, 72 - who has been in the industry since he was 11.

Offering classic award winning fish & chips in Spitalfields and Camden, you'll find Poppie's edible-inked newspaper housing your choice of fresh, flaky and delicious cod or haddock, alongside either battered or classic sausages, fishcakes, saveloy, jellied eels, bottled wine and beer, and of course hearty portions of their famed and perfectly crisped chips.

Although renowned for their authentic, delicious fish and chips, Poppie's is as much about its born and bred East-end owner - 72-year-old Pat ‘Pop’ Newland - the shop’s namesake, as it is the food. Pop started in the fish and chips business in the 1950s cutting newspaper on the roman road when he was just a minnow, at 11 years old.

Pop’s is rarely found away from the flagship Spitalfields branch, and now his kiosk in Old Spitalfields Market, where he works 7 days a week. In fact, if you’re there early enough, you’ll usually find Pop sweeping the road outside the Hanbury Street Shop, directing the morning deliveries of fresh fish, potatoes and other locally sourced produce. It's all about community for Pop, the East End is where he's always been and where he intends to always stay.

“We’ve always just tried to make great food. Fish and chips isn’t rocket science, you can’t put something bad in and expect to get something great out - do you know what I mean? We give everything a lot of heart at Poppie's.”

Pop and the team hope to see you at Poppie's soon – because we all know it’s the plaice to be...

Poppie's is located in Spitalfields and Camden with a kiosk in Old Spitalfields Market and will soon be opening in Camden Market too.
