Tommy the Rambler


In a farmhouse in a prarie in his bedroom
He told himself about the world that he was seeing
got choked up knowing he would never
See the other side of the world that he knew so well
Well he knew everything from here to thet horizon maybe more on a clear day
He made his mind up there and then
If the whole world's like this then im gonna kill myself
I gotta find a new place to live

He packed a bag for the trip
But when it came unzipped you could see that it was empty
Only brought the things that he knew he had to have
He brought himself, his mind, his heart, and a bag oh lord
For everything that he'd happen to find on the dusty road
He'd saythat
you can replace the things you have
But you can't have nothing that doesn't have you
Cuz it's always on your mind and it tells you what to do

Tommy was a rambling boy
He had big dreams of seeing things
That somehow made his life feel more worth while
He never lost his ability to smile
He's crossing roads and canyon
Moving mental miles

In a lucky situation in his travels
He came across a woman said that she could help him
She knew of a place on the mountain face
Where he might find his soul and the place to go
A place to go where he might feel at home
So he knocked on wood hoped for something good
And started climbing on the sloping western
Side of the mountain till he wrapped around to the east
hoped get a load of the sunrise.
If he wants to reach the crest by dawn he better best keep walking walking walking walking
The clounds swept in as the sun broke
Over the horizon but poked his head though just in time
He laughed, "this is a metaphor"


All this time I've had my head up in the clouds
But now that it's true there's nothing left to do but breathe this view and reflect for a minute or two cuz I still gotta long climb down before me
All this time I just needed to see my life from a new view
Change the angle and you're able to see the whole world
Like you never could see it before
He went and found the woman
Told her you're wise beyond your years just had to face some fears and get my ears over the clouds to see that it's about more than this life leads us to believe
I woke up and my lifes a dream
