Eastman Renovation and Expansion Project - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 16, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
In 2010, the Eastman School of Music unveiled a renovated Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre and the newly constructed East Wing. The expansion included the Hatch Recital Hall, a rehearsal space larger than the footprint of the Kodak Hall stage and a state of the art recording control room among other amenities. The project was an immense challenge, not only from the standpoint of preserving the history of the original 1922 building, but also adding the world-class facilities that would take Eastman's mission of educating leaders in music well into the future. The project received an Excellence in Historic Preservation Award from the Preservation League of New York State, a statewide recognition of notable achievements in retaining, promoting, and reusing irreplaceable architectural heritage.

Music in order of appearance:

Ludwig van Beethoven, "Missa solemnis in D Major, Op. 123," performed by the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra with the Eastman Chorale and Eastman Rochester Chorus

Alexander Scriabin, "Fantasy Op. 28," performed by Shi Shi He

Claude Debussy, "Images, Book 2," performed by Jiao Sun

Ellen Taafe Zwilich, "Rituals," performed by the Eastman Philharmonia and the Nexus Percussion Ensemble
