CHICO HAMILTON THE MUSICIAN - A MEMORIAL - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 26, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Chico's daughter Denise Hamilton requested me to help with the memorial event. It was a privilege and an honor to be asked. I volunteered to create a slide show video. 'Chico Hamilton as a musician' was my theme. Chico's manger Jeffery Caddick, sent me some of his music and I used "Just Play The Melody" from the album Juniflip because it had the right vibe and echoed Jeff's idea that the mallet solos in the piece would resonate with the church's acoustics. When I attached the music to the slide show, both, the timing and the mood, were spot-on. This project rolled out effortlessly, sort of like Chico's music. What was projected at the memorial (February 13, 2014 on a snow whipped NYC) at the Marble Collegiate Church, Manhattan, is what you are watching. May it spark the 'smarts' Chico never failed to induce in everyone he met. — Tej Hazarika

Juniflip features George Bohanon (trombone), Jimmy Cheatham (bass trombone), and vocalists Bill Henderson and Arthur Lee (frontman for the band LOVE) augmenting Chico's band Euphoria with Cary Denigris (guitar), Paul Ramsey (Fender bass) and Evan Schwam (flute, tenor and soprano sax).
