Kirkos: Rite - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 01, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Kirkos present The Rite of Spring reimagined for string trio (with live visuals by Tim Redfern) by fourteen of Ireland's best composers in honour of the centenary of its premiere.

May 29th 2013 marks one hundred years to the day since the most notorious world premiere of all time.

Stravinsky's Rite of Spring has become the zero point from which contemporary music draws its roots.

100 years on, it still has the power to shock.

Kirkos present Rite: The Rite of Spring as you've never heard it before.

We pared an orchestra of 100 down to three string players: one violin, one viola, one cello.

We replace a host of ballet dancers with one man and his laptop: Tim Redfern, Ireland's premier media artist.

And most importantly, we have the extraordinary honour of presenting fourteen new works by a mixture of Ireland's most established and most promising composers, each reimagining a section of the Rite of Spring and putting their own stamp on it.

These composers are:

Sebastian Adams
Breffni O'Byrne
Andrew Hamilton
Ian Wilson
Bill McGrath
Fergus Johnston
Gerald Barry
Raymond Deane
Robert Coleman
Garrett Sholdice
Jonathan Nangle
Evangelia Rigaki
Fergal Mulloy
Kevin O'Connell

Our brand new Rite will be launched 100 years to the day since the premiere of the Rite of Spring. May 29th, at 10pm. This exclusive event will be held in the opulent surroundings of the Odessa Club, and attendance will be by invitation only.

Kirkos are joining forces with 10 Days in Dublin to present Rite in Smock Alley, one of Dublin's most historic venues, on 11th July at 10pm.
