The desire to follow in the footsteps of the great singer/songwriters before him is what drives, sustains and ultimately defines Eric Landes.
Born in small town Iowa, Eric’s mother and step-father settled in Colorado when he was 10 years old. His upbringing was less than typical & the diversity of life experiences he had as a kid left a lasting effect. “I had a pretty crazy childhood, lived on a communal farm full of musicians, lived in a tipi, that kinda thing ~ nature & music . . . that’s what I’m made of.” Perhaps that’s why there is a certain “earthiness” to his artistry.
John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Jackson Brown, Kris Kristofferson, Darrell Scott, John Prine, Guy Clark, Dean Dillon to name a few, have all played their part in helping shape the artist and writer Eric is today. Force him to pick a genre, he’ll probably choose Americana, but there’s a certain uniqueness, an original quality that undeniably sets him apart.
His ability to craft a song with the skillful marriage of lyrics, melodies and phrasing have gained him the respect of many established writers and professionals in the Nashville music community. His songs are universal, his voice is honest; the pain, the joy, even the humor . . . they come from real places we’ve all been.
Currently residing in Nashville, Eric has been a staff songwriter at MoFamous Muzik for the past 3 years. His publisher, Cory Gierman, has been a fixture in the Nashville music business for over a decade, working for such companies as Famous Music, Universal Publishing and Warner Records as well as playing a vital role in the success of The Muzik Mafia and several of it’s members.
Eric’s songs have been recorded by numerous regional artists including the popular red dirt band No Justice, who released the song “Who I Want To Be” on their last album. Keep your eyes and ears open for his debut self released CD coming this summer!
