Stage Left Audio - EQ Basics - EQ insert for FOH - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 03, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
EQ Basics - Part 3 of 3 (EQ as an insert or as an in-line for FOH)

Running an EQ as an insert provides much greater control over FOH sound quality than running it in-line with the FOH output signal. As an insert, the EQ settings and fixed gain level don't change when the FOH fader is moved.

If the EQ is placed as in-line EQ, the gain levels of the EQ will change with the FOH fader movement - the changes can affect the sound quality of FOH. When possible, run an EQ as an insert; if no insert provisions are available on your board, running the EQ as an in-line EQ is your only option.

The trick to good sound...? When correcting/cleaning a FOH mix, always cut frequencies first.
