The Cows Are in the Moon Tonight (a collaboration with JosiahAltschuler) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 05, 2008
DESCRIPTION:
This video was filmed on the hill behind my house with a full moon rising behind the herd of red Angus as they grazed past. I was enchanted ... captivated ... thoroughly swept away by the moonlight. These lyrics were intended to be sung to Kottke's beautiful "Crow River Waltz," but I could not figure out how to record my voice and the music at the same time. A techie geek I am not!! So you, my good friends, get yet another poem... :)

THE COWS ARE IN THE MOON TONIGHT
(original poem)

the cows are in the moon tonight
they wander distant hills
their spirits soar with freedom's joy
as moonlight round them spills

they sailed the clouds to catch the moon
now captured by the light
came I to ride their velvet backs
and touch this gentle night

at stroke of twelve, a moonlight dance
a waltz in tune with grass
the thistles spent and bloomed now gone
reflected in the glass

the ancient, patient ridges pause
with steadfast puzzled stare
the cows and me... the moonlight...
we're all that's really there

when break of day leans on the east
adventures cast aside
but hang I now onto these beasts
'til dawn, wild moonlight ride
.

He occasionally performs solo, playing his cello in an unorthodox, guitar-like style. "Murder Ballads and Love Songs for Cello and Voice" is Josiah's first solo CD.
