Ember Swift

Canadian artist Ember Swift is an internationally touring musician and songwriter, and founder of the independent label Few’ll Ignite Sound. She and her band have toured extensively throughout Canada, the US, Australia, New Caledonia (French island in the Pacific) and China. She has released 10 albums and 1 DVD project since 1996 and continues to have a loyal fan base across many national borders.
Besides performing musically, Ember is regularly asked to speak and/or conduct workshops on various topics such as songwriting, cross-cultural musical exchange, touring, and running an indie music label.
With a degree in East Asian Studies from the University of Toronto tucked away in her back pocket, in mid-2007 Ember took a break from her full-time touring career and travelled to her dream destination: China. There, she discovered a whole new series of inspirations that lead to the development of a new musical project called LENTIC.
Lentic reflects a changing pace for this busy artist as it means “of or related to or living in still waters,” the opposite to the literal meaning of her given name. LENTIC is a folktronica record, once again modelling Ember’s eclectic approach to music and courageous stylistic exploration. This album was nominated for a Toronto Independent Music Award in the World Music Category, 2010.
Ember now shares her time between Toronto and Beijing. She has bands and beds in both cities and, as with musical style categories, has no problem straddling the two diverse worlds.
