DESCRIPTION:
Week 31 of a series I'm calling "52 Licks." 1 new jazz phrase for each week.
We're doubling up on Elvin. Why?
Why not??
This is a cool lick I've heard him use a bunch. It's in the same solo we checked out awhile ago: "Crisis" from Freddie Hubbard's "Ready for Freddie" album.
It's a common triplet sticking but it's built within a larger quarter note triplet. So it ends up being 9:2. Sound complicated? It isn't, I promise. That's just the "math" of it. Let's not do math. My head already hurts just from typing that. Just listen, and follow your right hand.
Here's the youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0L53zSkZks
It happens at 9:00 on the album, but this youtube link has it around 9:07. Don't worry, it'll be obvious when you hear it.
Good Luck!
