El Movimiento Ent (MR. MIGGS -CEO, A&R, MIXTAPE DJ) a dynamic grass roots marketing team that know how to reach the burgeoning urban Latino market through mix tape CDs, DVDs, and hard-working street teams. In only six months, the marketing company, El Movimiento, has released five mixtape CDs and promotes music for several important labels, producers and artists in the Reggaeton and Latin hip-hop genre. Their clients include Flia (Magic Juan), MVP (Khriz and Angel, Divino), and SPKilla Camp (Big Mato and Nore),
Mr. Miggs was working as an A&R/ independent promoter back in Miami and before that with La Mega 97.9 and Amor 93.1 (SBS) as a promoter in NYC. He launched El Movimiento in 2005, after observing that there was a need for quality mixtape CDs that featured Reggaeton and Latin Hip-hop.
Mr. Miggs says that the mixtape CD is an invaluable marketing tool for artists. "A mixtape is simply a CD where you use the latest music, exclusive music, or blends to promote the artist," he says. "An El Movimiento mixtape includes brand-new music, brand-new artists, shoutouts, interviews, beefs, and exclusive stuff you won't get on a full-length CD or any other mixtape.
" El Movimiento mixtapes are available in neighborhood mom and pop record stores, barber shops, bodegas and online (LIKE HERE ON MYSPACE).
A fan's hunger for new music is very powerful, says Mr. Miggs, and El Movimiento knows just how to tap into that. "We'll get the streets on fire. Every fanatic, every hardcore hip-hop fan and now Reggaeton and Latin hip-hop fan can get their exclusive before anybody else, and they hear that on the streets through the mixtapes. Artists often give us their tracks so we can premiere it in the mixtape market first. From there it moves on to the clubs, and then gets picked up by radio, and so on."
There is a wealth of talented artists from coast to coast, but unfortunately, they aren't promoted beyond the local level. El Movimiento is out to change that. "Our goal is to spread music made in New York to the West Coast and get the West Coast music and bring it back here to New York. We wanted to make this movement as big as it can be."
Each El Movimiento mixtape CD has 30 tracks featuring a diverse group of artists. Past CDs have included tracks from MVP from Texas, Don Miguelo from Dominican Republic, Big Mato and Magic Juan from New York City, and Don Omar and Daddy Yankee from Puerto Rico. Mr. Miggs says they're adding tracks to future CDs from artists from other countries including Spain, Colombia, and the Cali.
El Movimiento has several projects coming up, including the release of the first Movimiento DVD. "El Movimiento DVD is a visual equivalent of the mixtapes," says Mr. Miggs.
