DESCRIPTION:
Robert Heppener: Sweelinck Fanfare, °1977, performed by the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Anton Kersjes.

Fasten your seatbelts for here comes a real smasher.
In 1978 several Dutch composers had been commissioned by the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra to write a short concert opening piece, not lasting more than five minutes.
One of those composers, Robert Heppener (1925-2009) took an earlier written work, 'Sweelinck Fanfare', originally composed for wind band at the occasion of the opening of the new conservatory of Amsterdam in 1977, and re-scored it for symphony orchestra.
The theme of the work is Sweelinck's famous variations on 'Mein junges Leben hat ein End'.
