Elie Sandberg is the man behind the music of Elie & the Engine. Erik Petterson Sjöquist is the man behind the productions. Our music is inspired by many of the different music traditions from around the globe. We want to make music that can be intimate, as well as music suited for big stages. This is our creative vehicle with movable and changing part, rearranged to suit the need of the musical situation. The band can look different from performance to performance, but the core will always be Elie's music. The goal is to be a positive and uniting force when performing live, and a vehicle for exploration when recording new music.

Lyrics:
I don't need rights to justify who I am
I'm a sovereign woman I'm a sovereign man
not a legal entity created by your laws
I am not a rebel and I'm not without a cause

I'm a sovereign woman I'm a sovereign man
I'm addicted to freedom that's what I am
I'm a sovereign woman I'm a sovereign man
I don't need you to tell me what I am

you where born into this world dependent on your kin
dependent on the love that they felt deep within
now you depend on government and industry too
destined to conform and regulate you

I'm a sovereign woman I'm a sovereign man
I'm addicted to freedom that's what I am
I'm a sovereign woman I'm a sovereign man
I don't need you to tell me what I am

I don't need to be governed I don't want to fooled
I know my purpose in life and it's not to be ruled

I'm a sovereign woman I'm a sovereign man
I'm addicted to freedom that's what I am
I'm a sovereign woman I'm a sovereign man
I don't need you to tell me what I am
