PUBLISHED:  May 19, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Hussam AbdelSalam is a violinist and music composer. His forte lies in blending different musical rhythms of folkloric background from all parts of Sudan and presenting it in a contemporary form. Through the folkloric dance routines that are performed along with his music, he hopes to reflect upon, and spread Sudan's rich culture while simultaneously indulging people's ears and eyes.

He participated in establishing the first all-woman music group in Sudan, comprised mainly of Ahfad University for Women students in 1999. He also founded The Musical Festival for the Mind and Soul in May of 2008 in hopes of promoting the musical taste of listeners in our society and at the same time, providing a link for musicians to directly communicate with their audiences to portray their thoughts and talent.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*
