Cooly G's an artist who doesn't believe in confining herself to one sound or style and the fact she's signed to Hyperdub is testament to this.

Head of one of the UK's most eclectic electronic music labels, Kode9 snapped up the producer, singer and rapper after she distributed a host of CD-only releases via Soho's Blackmarket Records and released the rough 'n' ready 'Dub Organizer' EP on BM Funky. Since the initial link-up, Hyperdub's become a home-from-home for Cooly G, real name Merrisa Campbell, sitting herself alongside the likes of Burial, Terror Danjah and the late, great DJ Rashad on the imprint.

From debut Hyperdub release 'Narst'/'Love Dub', a mixture of raw UK funky and soothing house melodies, to the latest techno-leaning 'Hold Me', it's clear that sticking to a certain genre isn't on Cooly's agenda. And 2012 album 'Playin' Me' represented this approach once again, seeing the Londoner display her emotional side with a cluster of deep, downtempo abstract tracks and once again utilising her own vocals.

Ahead of the Special Request 2nd birthday party in London on May 24, a night that champions only the best in present grime, garage and house, Cooly serves up a killer In Session. Focusing on wobbly, off-kilter house, the mix goes to show that her tune selection is just as innate as her sublime production skills and, believe it or not, a fine way to kick off your night.
