Tara Low of Guitar Girl Magazine chats with Jim and Dara Crockett about their new book "Guitar Player: The Inside Story of the First Two Decades of the Most Successful Guitar Magazine Ever" published by Hal Leonard to be released March 9. The book tells the stories of the best guitar players of our times and shares insight into one of the first magazine's to cover them. It's a reflection on Guitar Player's early founding in 1967 by Bud Eastman.
Mr. Crockett spoke to us about how he applied and interviewed for the job of Music Editor with Bud Eastman, the beginning days when it was just Bud, his wife Maxine, and a part-time college student. His first pay check bounced and he thought - "What have I done?" Well, as it turned out, he had done the right thing.
He spoke about the jam sessions they would have when they were done with the month's magazine and it was sent off to press. His daughter Dara recalled fondly her early years hanging around the offices and watching some of the jam sessions at the warehouse which included visits from B.B. King, Chick Corea, Jerry Garcia, and Johnny Winter, to name a few.
A great story and can't wait for the book.
