Antarctica is a Vangelis soundtrack to the film Nankyoku Monogatari by Koreyoshi Kurahara, released in 1983. For years, the soundtrack album was only available in Japan, popping up in other countries as a rare and expensive import, when in 1988 Polydor finally decided to release the album worldwide.

Most of the music has been built around the famous main theme, most prolifically arranged in the first track. Many calm and hypnotic renditions are heard throughout the album, which generally breathes a cold but enchanting atmosphere.
