Hip-hop has become hands down the biggest and most popular music in the world, as we know it. Leaving us with a highly over saturated market of either clones of successful artists or people that are just trying to find a way to fit in. Every so often though, there is that artist leaving us to take a double take! Out of the millions of people trying desperately to figure it out, there are those few that leave the world trying to figure them out. There are those who leave an instant and lasting impression on all who they encounter, for they represent evidence of a higher power! They represent the difference between artistry, natural born talent and the fusing of the two in light of reaching perfection! Thus we are left in the hands of such an artist, GRAVITY!
Brought up in the streets of Harlem, this New York native has lived with his love of music since the days of young. With a songstress for a mother, a DJ as a father and a musician as an uncle, Grav was destined to be an artist! From constructing rhythms while banging on tables, to sampling on a Digitech delay machine and a Casio SK1, to laying melodies and cadences using headphones strapped to the back of his bedroom door for a microphone, as a shortie, creating music was a non-stop process and has been the part of Grav’s life that defines Grav’s life!
In late 92’ Grav found his way to the place where he now calls home. Adopted by “The Windy City,” Chicago IL, he would spend all of his adult years here and acquire the skills of applying raw talent to artistry! It would be Chicago to claim responsibility for teaching this star to shine! Grav put out his first published works, the album” Down To Earth,” in 1996 produced mostly by “Kanye West”, and wrote Kanye his first industry check! Since his settling in Chicago Grav has established key relationships with radio and other industry entities and has worked with the likes of No I.D., Kevin “Shakespeare” Briggs, Doug Infinite, Arnold Hennings, SC, Andy C, Stereo, Hit Squad, Liquid Soul, Slang Music Group, Jeff Morrow, Emoto and countless other entities in Chicago. His captivating voice has not only landed him a career in music, but has labeled him a force to be reckoned with in the voiceover industry. Working with top agencies such as Burrell and Leo Burnett, he has lent his voice to countless commercials for Jeep, Dodge,Kellogs, Matchbox, Mc Donalds, Bacardi and the list goes on! His voice even makes a guest spot on EA Sports' hit video game "Def Jam ICON"! His writing skills have also landed him in the ghostwriting seat for various artists in rap, R&B, alternative and contemporary jazz! Writing for artist from all over the U.S. all the way to Lithuania, where the song held on top 40 at 2 under Madonna!
It is Grav’s understanding of music that allows him to become one with rhythms, coupled with clever lyrics, street knowledge and a voice that hits you dead center in your chest leaving you breathless and winding your neck for that double take, sure to have the world watching, and wanting more!
