DESCRIPTION:
Records by Danish swing violinist Svend Asmussen tend to be hard to find in the United States despite his 60 years of productive playing. This Sonet import matches Asmussen in 1983 with three guitarists (including soloist Ulf Wakenius), bassist Hugo Rasmussen and (on two of the eight numbers) drummer Bjarne Rostvold. The repertoire is quite wide-ranging including two Duke Ellington pieces from the 1920's ("East St. Louis Toodle-oo" and "The Mooche"), a few traditional pieces (such as "Two Guitars" and "Prelude In C-Minor") and Jimmy Rowles' haunting ballad "The Peacocks." Worth searching for.
