WELCOME TO MY WORLD

In the Beginning

D-TOX was Born in New York. His father is American, his mother British.

After their marriage unfortunately broke down, D was forced to move back to his mother's home city of Manchester, UK, where he started school. His summer holidays were spent with his father in New York, US. As the years passed there were times his mother couldn't cope with him due to his chaotic and unsettling nature. D would be handed to his father again, only this time he would spend 18 months attending a school in New York. Throughout his childhood and teenage years this happened more than 3 times. I guess you could say D-TOX had a slight identity crisis, not knowing were he truly belonged. Was he British or American?

Welcome to Hip-Hop

D-TOX's earliest memory of hip-hop music was when he'd watched the movie "Breakin." His older brother bought him the movie soundtrack, his first album ever owned. the ablum had a track called "Reckless" by Ice-T. D was instantly hooked to this guy just rapping lyrics over this beat, as two breakdance crews battled it out. A few years later a friend gave D a cassette tape of some hardcore dance music that was big at the time. On the flip side of the tape he'd incidently left on two tracks he had taped. The tracks were "Fuck The Police" and "Straight Outta Compton" by the hardcore rap group "N.W.A." D-TOX was totally blown away! After that D got into Yo! Mtv Raps, and it's been uphill from there.

Making Some Noise…

Now living in the UK, D started to freestyle lyrics and beatbox, all the time building his confidence. He began writing a little more seriously around four years ago. Having no real knowledge of beat production, he started a live hip-hop band called "The Natives." It was a full live set up including drums, bass, lead guitar, a keyboard player, two female back-up vocalists and a second MC. They played around Manchester gaining a steady following, but due to individual commitment issues the band eventually split. With passion and drive D worked on tightening his flow and delivery, and started his own beat production with the help of local workshops and seminars.

D-TOX is Born

Within the last 2 years D-TOX has taken his career to the next level. His live performances are second to none with music that is a reflection of his real life experiences dashed with a splash of occasional comedy. He has branched out to record several tracks for many successful international mixtapes, including City is Ours, Super Hero Chronicles, and New to the Game. He has been reviewed and given great admiration by the magazines HipHopConnection, Street Kings, UrbanKingdom and Manchester Local Press, as well as several internet based magazine websites. As the climb to reach his goal picks up speed, D-TOX recently opened up the Apollo, Manchester leg of the “Hip-Hop is Dead Tour" as a support artist for "Nas." He has also recorded 3 tracks for the soundtrack of the new UK movie "Summer Scars." The music video for one track was filmed & directed by cult director Julian Ritchards. D-TOX started his own production company/team "DetoxEntertainment" which has been responsible in the designing and running of www.detoxhiphop.com, which includes an original online virtual comic book - the first of its kind! D-TOX's music video for the track "UNSTOPPABLE" aired on ChannelU (sky channel360) in 2007 for an exceptional 10 months due to constant telephone vote requests (Directed by D-TOX himself & AZI "puddinzProductionz") D-TOX recently won a prestigious award at the prive urban talent heat in the Printworks, Manchester, where he battled through ten difficult nights of competition against some of the best talent in the northwest of England. The winner of each heat was decided by the level of crowd appreciation. D-TOX was awarded at the final the overall winner and was awarded £1000 and a day in a state of the art recording studio. The Competition attracted a lot of local press and D-TOX was interviewed by the Manchester Evening News, Metro, Oldham Chronical and the Stockport Express. D-TOX finished his eagerly awaited debut album "Re-hab" and is distributing the album through "DetoxEntertainment" securing shelf space in all the main and underground high street music stores including HMV, Virgin, Fatcity, Voxpop, Eastern Block, and Vynal Exchange to name but a few.
